Church of the Beloved Disciple

Our History

Commemorative Booklet, Part I

Celebrating Yesterday ... Creating Tomorrow

Eight decades – the span of one man’s life. It contains the history of one small piece of the Body of Christ, of generations’ worth of the Holy Spirit’s work in the Grove City community.

Yet, to God, 80 years is but a blink of an eye. Though today marks the beginning of a new decade of God’s faithfulness to his faithful, he has only just begun his work in our parish community. Today as we dedicate this building to the worship and honor of our God, let us re-affirm our personal vows to dedicate ourselves and our lives to his service, that we would continue to advance the peace and message of Jesus Christ today and forever.

Thanks to you and your continued contributions, we have built a beautiful new home in our "field of dreams" that will accommodate all of Church of the Beloved Disciple’s current and future needs. Most importantly, it is a place where all can gather; for a building only becomes a Church when it is full of God’s people.

The Beloved Disciple Pastoral Center

On December 8, 2007, the parish community gathered on a snowy winter Sunday morning with Bishop Donald Trautman and Father Mark Hoffman, pastor, to bless the land in a ceremonial groundbreaking for the second wing to the parish church building for the service of administration and faith formation.

The people gathered with Father Hoffman from June of 2007 to develop the vision and fund-raising for the new wing, which spanned 11,050 square feet at the cost of $1.7 million dollars.  Meetings continued until the ground was moved in April 2008, beginning a 7 month building project.  Webber-Murphy-Fox Architects from Erie PA served as both designer and project manager for the new wing.

On November 15, 2008, Bishop Tratuman again presided at a Mass of Blessing and Dedication for the new wing, which became known as the Beloved Disciple Pastoral Center.  It has two main parts:  A Faith Formation Center, which boasts 9 classrooms ti serve students from Pre-School through 12th grade, including an Adult Education Library and a beautiful courtyard in the center of the building.  The other part is the Parish Office wing, which offers access to the entire staff, allowing for security and privacy.  These include offices for the Pastor, Associate, Secretaries, Religious Ed Leader, Stewardship/Outreach Director and Youth Minister.
